Interview coming-husband been abroad

Hi,
we have been married for 3 years now and our interview is coming late May. My husband is still working on his PhD and has been doing his internship for the past year abroad (coming back to the US for holidays and me going to him on holidays). The internship lasts until this July. We decided he goes for it because we did not know how long we were going to wait for the interview and he did not want to miss this chance. How is the immigration officer going to look at this?

You should show proof of his internship abroad. A letter of appointment on his internship and duration of it.

I was under the impression that the USC spouse HAD to be present unless he or she is military and under documented deployment orders. I would see if your husband can pop over for a few days, JMHO.

Thanks for your response

He will be here for the interview, no question about that. Also his bills, address, health insurance, everything is here, plus he comes back to the US every 2-3 months or so. We can explain to them that it was a great opportunity, we could not wait any more, and he had to go abroad. I really don't see why it would be a problem - people do this all the time. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Would you recommend us not to talk about him being abroad unless we are asked about that? What do you think?

As a rule in USCIS interviews:

Don't volunteer information you are not directly asked for.
Don't lie.

Follow these rules and you should be golden.
