SSN versus ITIN

Folks,
Apologize if this is repeated elsewhere.

We just got our 485 approval. We have been using ITIN for spouse and Kid for tax purposes all these years as they were not eligible for SSN.

Now that they are eligible for SSN, what happens to ITIN ?. Also, when I file taxes in March how would IRS treat it, if they start seeing new set of numbers for 2 of the dependents ?

I think after you get SSN, you just use this and forget about ITIN... my daughter first had ITIN then got SSN, I filed taxes first with her ITIN and then with her SSN (no more ITIN and no two numbers), all looked ok.

If I remember, I think you can write to IRS mentioning your spouse & kid details including the older ITIN & the new SSN and ask them to merge their records.

Same thing with the credit reporting agencies.

As per the instructions in ITIN card (along with letter), return it with a copy of SSN card. If you are e-filing taxes you should have a minor inconvenience this year (i think you need to enter the last 4 digits of your previous year's SSN/ITIN number or something like that as signature . I think i entered the new SSN number instead of old ITIN number and it got rejected the first time. I rectified the problem and I was able to resubmit my submission). I dont exactly remember the sequence, but fill it out carefully.
