keeping GC and citizen ship status

Hello


I am a GC holder who is leaving the country on nov 30th to overseas for b school. Am I correct in that I need to visit within a year to keep my GC status and I need to be back once within every 6 months to keep my continous presence requirement for citizenship.

Is this six month, year period run from time I left the country or it runs from jan to dec time clock?

I will be out of the country for one year period nov 30th 2006 to dec 2007.

I called the 1800 number once because I was out of the country for more than 6 months and they said that I am still eligible for citizenship as long as I can provide proof like rent receipts.
