SS# app. problems?

What do the people at the SS offices actually look at and compare to determine whether or not they should issue you a number right there and then?

It is suppose that SSA offices has a database that is link with the USCIS to check out your document. Some do it right away and practically the next business day you have your SSN. Others, don't know why, take weeks (4-10) to verify this information and be able to give you a SSN.

You must show that you are eligible to work (EAD, or other type of visas, etc.)or that you need one as a US citizen (show birth certificate, US passport, etc).

It is my understanding that you can go to whatever SSA office in your state...but of course it's better the one that is the easiest to go from where you at.

The only unfortunate situation is that no one knows what offices can check it out right away or which won't do it. So cross your fingers and good luck! Oh forgot you must go with another ID...you can download the form from your computer so you can fill it out from your home and be sure to read which documents you must bring.

Are you on a learners permit still when you applied for the DL or did they issue you a DL right away? If so what were the procedures for EAD holders?

Thanks again all of you guys for replying!

Hon, make your homework and take it easy...it's normal to be frustrated and a little anxious but do not get on so many worries.

Go to the SSA website and check the form and the documents -only ORIGINALS-that you must bring.

Good luck,

Oh no! I got my DL right away. About learner's permit, that depends on your state, I really don't know about that, even in my state they have it I don't know who must take it, but I never did.You must check with your area DMV what you need and what you must bring. You can go to their website...

Good luck,
