Marriage after GC

Hello all:

I got my GC. I want to get married. My understanding is that if I get married to a girl from India who does not have a visa to the US, then it will take 3-4 years for me to obtain a GC for her.

So how can I have my wife from India come to this country and live with me (I don't want to wait in the USA alone for 3-4 years)?

Thanks

Sikander

Your only option is that your would-be wife gets a F-1, H-1B or L1 visa, if she qualifies before you both get married. Otherwise, waite until you are a citizen, then she will qualify as an immediate relative and the process would be less than 1 yr.

If you get married first, then getting a F-1 visa would be very difficult for your wife as it would nearly impossible to for her to prove the non-immigration intent.

Best is that she gets the F-1 visa, and come to US and after a few months you get married.

The correction is - that now it takes more like 7-8 years to get your wife in if you are a GC holder.
