Oh yeah, definitely.
I tried to learn Japanese for one whole year, I'm half Thai and love Asian languages. Japanese is whole lot different from Thai though.. a lot harder to write!! Very impressive that you learned it. But I'm actually seeing squares, because my Computer doesn't support the Japanese signs!!

Depends on how you look at history, but since Taiwan was a colony of Japan pre-World War II (and since citizenships aren't typically granted to residents of the colony), do i count as a japanese resident? though i was born at a much later time...
