Strange Situation

One of my collegue went for the GC interview. He is adjusting his status based on family immigration. Everything went well and he got his I-551 stamped on his passport. when he chekced his status online it wasnt updated. On the same day his brother also had the interview and his status got updated saying that Welcome letter has been mailed. Also after the interview, his brother got an approval notice from the officer, saying that his case has been approved.

When my friend checked his passport, the alien number was different than the one in the approval notice sent by INS. He again went back and talked to the officer, she deleted the one on the passport and wrote the correct alien number.

When he asked for the approval letter, she said that there is no such thing.

Can somebody help me out.

Well, is the first time that I heard that an officer gave "an approval letter" during the interview, but well every DO and officer apparently is different, who knows. He should receive through the mail the Welcome Letter that is a Notice of Action that states that his I-485 was approved. Some received the 1-130 approved notice at the same time.

And is very common that your online status is not updated after several days even his brother had his status updated right away.

Good luck,

I think the stamp on the passport is much better.
It is a kind of "interim green card".
You could show it to your employer and you could even travel with that.

I think some one in DORA program(Chand) got an official approval printout instantly at the interview. Others all got the Approval and Welcome letter though mail.

This doesnt make sense at all. DORA applicants start their AOS process with an interview (exactly opposite of a regular AOS process) and there is no way one can get an approval letter on the day they file their forms. I wish it was "that fast" {sigh}

OK! Now I cant find that post....however may be it would take sometime. Considering the name checks, fingerprint procedures, and paperwork processing times.
