Confusion regarding the 6 month continuous stay rule

I am a bit confused about the rule that talks about continuous residency. My understanding is this: During the 5 year period on GC, as long as you limit each of your stay outside the US for less than 6 months, you are fine and should be able to apply for citizenship without problems.

Recently somebody asked me if the rule actually meant that the TOTAL duration of stay outside the US shouldn't exceed more than 6 months. That is if I took 7 vacations of 1 month each during these 5 years, I would be in trouble. I don't think the rule means this. I think the rule talks about an uninterrupted stay of > 6 months.

Please clarify.

Thanks,
-Sidd

It doesn't; don't worry.
