Do I need a visa for UK? Urgent reply appreciated

Hi there!!!

I definitely need a help from a knowledgeable person.
I am a citizen of the Republic of Georgia and a Permanent Resident of United States. I currently live in Germany together with my family, as my husband is doing his Ph.D. here. Actually we won lottery while in Germany, thus have never really lived in US (just entered last year for 2 weeks and returned back to Germany. Planning to do the same this year), but planning to relocate there the next year, after my husband receives his Ph.D. here in Germany.

Anyway, closer to the issue: I want to go to UK for up to 3 months this summer. May I travel on my Green Card or do I have to apply for a visa? I have a valid Shengen Visa and my Green Card, aren't they enough for my travel?

i have no idea about you,but last time i went (2004)to india and unfortunately my return transit was through london(heathrow),and when i was about to board the flight in india ,the immigration ppl did not let me board the flight saying i dont have a visa for u.k,i told them it was just a transit for 2 hrs and i am a green card holder,they said neverthless i need a visa and finally the airlines gave me a option of hooking me up through another flight via paris and i had to oblidge...????

but plz do not go just by my experience may be things have changed ,bestr thing is to talk to your travel agent!!!

Wow, the immigration people must be clueless. The UK embassy websites all state that people continuing on to the US and Canada are exempt from the direct airside transit visa requirements. That even includes tourists with valid B1 visas.

US PR are not required to have a transit visas if they are travelling with a GC and a valid passport. I just did that in January thru Heathrow both going to and coming back and was not required any visa. I confirmed it with my travel agent and the following web-site which is a very helpful site to determine if you require a visa or not.

Please note that above comment is only valid when talking about a transit flight or plane changes that doesn't require you to go outside the airport.
