Approved! Atlanta DO.

I just came back. I will post details but the news is great. I got approved. They put a stamp in my passport and told me to wait 2 weeks for the card!

Have a question:

Does the countdown towards my citizenship start today, or do I have to wait 2 years until my conditional GC is approved and only then I can start counting towards the citizenship?

My Timeline
20 April 2005: (Day 001) -- Mailed I-485, I-765 & I-131 to Chicago
27 April 2005: (Day 007) -- Receipt Date
23 May 2005: (Day 034) -- Notice Date
21 June 2005: (Day 063) -- AP approved on-line
07 July 2005: (Day 077) -- Received AP (expiration: June 2006)
27 July 2005: (Day 099) -- FP & Biometric Completed
09 Aug 2005: (Day 143) -- EAD Approved on-line
15 Aug 2005: (Day 149) -- EAD Received (expiration: June 2006)
12 Dec 2005: (Day 203) -– AOS Interview Notice Received
06 Feb 2006: (Day 259) -– AOS Interview *: case approved

Countdown to citizenship starts from the date on your GC (now!)

Recap>

The interview was 30 minutes. The officer was really nice. YOung. About 28 years old. She asked us really generic questions: name, birthdates, my husband's personal info, etc.

She did not ask any questions about our marriage. Just wanted to see our proof of marriage. So I bombarded her with the paperwork: deed, mortgage statements, phone bills, gas bills, bank statements, affadavit, etc, etc, etc. I made copies for her. She took them, punched holes in them them, got her stamp out and put a stamp in my passport. She said it would take 2 weeks to get the card.

I did see one lady storm out of the back room with her "hubby'. Looked like they got denied. Not sure but she seemed upset. Hope it works out for her in the end.

That is the only thing that made me worried. Again, be sure if you have an interview, be on time. Dont think it doesnt take long to get there and get to the room. You will have to go through the security check, etc. So be sure to leave yourself a lot of extra time.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Hello all:

I got approved this morning as well. My experience was just as uneventful as e17345s was.

My passport was stamped. The only difference from e17345 was that I was told that the green card will arrive in the mail within 2 months, instead of 2 weeks.

QDude, Congrats.

Not sure why there is a discrepancy in the time period;I asked my attorney before the interview and asked the officer herself 2 times how long it would take and both said 'about 2 weeks'.

Will you please let me know when you get yours, and I will do the same. So we can benchmark against each other....

Thanks!

I think it used to take two weeks are so.......BUT there have been TONS of approvals in the Atlanta DO...think about all the approvals on this board alone....I wouldn't be surprised if the two month period is right....our interview was 1/18 - nothing still....

Thanks for your feedback. Would you please let us all know when you get your card?

Yeah, at this point, we cant complain. it took me 12 years to get to this point so i am willing to wait. The only reason I am anxiuous to get it is to travel: some countries dont require a visa if you have an actual card, not a stamp, but the card in your posession....

Thanks again.

Did your interview was at MLK Federal Building? I received another interview notice with a correct address (even the note that came with the interview notice states "the proper location of your interview...." and then at the end says "if you appear for the interview at the Martin Luther King Federal Building you will not be interviewed, you will be directed to the Peachtree Dunwoody address. We apologize if this has caused any inconvenience to you" and I am getting kind of worry about that...I called the customer service and they told me that ATL DO has several branches/offices. The new place is like less than 2 miles from where I live, but is kind of weird. I understood that everything was at the DO downtown...

Good idea to keep another timeline for the "card" itself for ATL.
Congrats again!!!

ARI4U:

I appreciate the sarcasm! Actually, the mystery of I-130 was never solved...not even to this date. I checked my status on CIS's site, and nothing has been updated. Plus, how it all works is still a mystery to me. But at this point, I feel relieved, blessed and absolutely thrilled.

CIS has been a part of my life for so long. In fact, they have defined my life in so many ways that I think it will be a while before I fully calm down. Perhaps after I get my citizenship. So the countdown is on: 2 years and 354 days until I can start worrying about that process....

Thanks for your support. What has been really touching is how helpful everyone has been on this forum. Thank you. And if I can help anyone, just let me know!
