didn't file tax returns, please help!

Hello, hope somebody can help.

I'm a GC holder, living outside the US with a reentry permit.
I stupidly followed some bad advice and, since I had no US
income for 2004, I didn't file my taxes in 2005.
I am worried about the repercussions on my GC status.
What can I do? Can I fix this with the IRS now?

thanks!

Yes, you can back-file your taxes. Call up IRS to get more info.

You still need to report zero-income.

Talk with a good CPA and arrange to pay a small penalty and get your records updated with the IRS.

You can fix it with IRS.
There is a lot of information for you on the IRS website, www.irs.gov under individuals/international taxpayers/U.S.Citizens & Resident Aliens Abroad. You can also find phone numbers for you to call the IRS from outside the US or you can contact them through their website.
It may be that you can file a 1040 for the year(s) you didn't file plus a 2555-EZ (Foreign Earned Income Exclusion). Also check the US Embassy website of the country you are in, many of them have info on taxes for citizens and alien residents abroad. HTH
