SSN verification

Hi there a newbie to this forum, although i have lurked through the past couple of month/s. I have read a quite of bit of useful insights and information that many have benefiitted from on this sight. Let me share a little about me. I am Canadian married to us citizen, and filed paperwork in august, and have recieved the EAD, and AP to date. After i received the EAD i went and applied for the SSN, back on Nov 2 and have yet to receive the number/card. Has anyone else been thruough similiar experiences in regard to waiting for DHS verification. TYVM in advance for any feedback and/or possible help.

go to the office or call them why you haven't recieved it yet. It usually only takes 10-14 days.

hi Mike, they, the ssa, told me i had to wait for DHS verification. I originally applied Nov 2 but was told by the guy who took my application(hes no longer there) that he didnt submit it til the 17th nov.. About 3 weeks later i called again to followup and was told that they were gonna resubmit the file. I called back a week later and was told that i needed to go down to the office with my passport and EAd because they lost my file. The next day upset, i called and tryed to get some clarification regarding my file and was told by the woman whohad taken over the file from the guy who was let go, that she had the file, and could understand why someone said it was "missing". any how to make a long story short, i guess i have now 2 possible dates for the 4 week period, them being nov 17 and dec 16, wow joy.

The procedure of verification with DHS database is normal. I just heard one case over here that was taking more than 2 weeks, but I don't know the outcome at the end. I would go to another SSA. I don't know why all SSA doesn't follow the same procedures, when I went to one of my local SSA I wait for an hour and a half (something like that) for the verification (right there) and then they let me go and that was it. At the next business day I went back and they gave me a letter with my number on it in case that I need it right away before my card arrive, 6 days later my SScard was on the mail.
Good luck,

verification

Well thats very puzzling in deed, because they told me they had to send the application away, i guess it goes to ATL i have since been told. They, the local office here in, actually next state over from ATL, is telling me there waiting for verification. Today i was given a toll free number to call to see if i cant nudge the process. This is frustrating as is inhibits any attempt at trying for work that i may apply for or jobs that i have as they cant hire me w/o ssn, and of course your required to put the ssn on application and not ssn.

Ah? That is very weird. I never heard about that. Where are you at? TN, SC, FL, AL?
I remember that number and the first thing the person told me was you must wait 8 weeks for the verification of your information and then a SSN will be given to you. I didn't pay attention since at the ssa they already made the verification, and even I explained that to the customer service the woman ignored me and insisted that "it is impossible". I mean what can you expect if they don't have a common procedure? I didn't argue and said okay thanks. So I went next week (it was already a Friday) and got my SSN in a letter. I even told the lady (that actually was the same as the previous week) about the conversation and she just roll her eyes and said sorry about that.

But in your case, what I know as I asked the lady who attended my case she told me that before in that office they send the information to DHS and wait for their answer and that is why took so long (14 days). But now, apparently they have a database connected with DHS database so they can check that out right away. The weird situation here is that they should send the information (online) to DHS not like mail...are you sure they were talking about your physical application?

Try to go to another SSA and ask if they can verify right there your EAD so your SSN can be issue faster.
Good luck,

Hi cherr, im in AL. Well here they say, and i spoke to the manager or who ever she is , that they send it out to ATL and it commonly takes 8 weeks or better. Had i known this back in Nov I surely would have driven to ATL and had this dealt with the way you did at your local office. Im guessing it wont matter which offfice i use such as Bham et al..because they are still gonna have to send it to ATL for verification. I also did ask for a temporary number, to which i was explicably said No to. I guess im almost done the wait if they go by the 17 of DEC. I do appreciate your feedback tho. It is very frustrating and not working takes its toll like im sure it does on everyone going through process.

Ssn Verification

Well i got the good news today, the SSA called me before 5pm today and said that verification came back from DHS. So i go down there tomrrow and get the number. Ill get actual card within 10 days i guess. Im so happy i can now apply for jobs that i couldnt apply for because i didnt have SSN, and I have found just because you have a an EAD most employers will not hire you w/o SSN , bot even Wallyworld!..go figure.

I am so happy for your Canam!!! finally!
I am agree with you if you would know that in the first place, would be much easy that you even take a car and go to ATL by yourself...is just 2.5 hours or a little less.
But good to know that things moved.

Yes the rules on DMV for Canadians are different in some states, you need your valid unexpired DL from Canada with your picture on it.
Good for you!
