Maintaining PR - Filing taxes

Dear friends:

I know that if a Permanent Resident is abroad for an extended period of time (e.g. returning once every 6 months), it is advised that they file US taxes (although this is by no means a gurantee that the permanent residence will be retained and unharmed).

Can you please advise me how to go about filing US taxes while I am abroad?

Is there a special form for such tax filing? If so, do you know the form number?

Do I need to be in the US when I file, or can my tax advisor file on my behalf while I am abroad?

Is money I earn abroad to be presented on the form?

Any recipes for this situation would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can file taxes online these days, and so need not be present here. The IRS website may be of help. Alternatively, you can try one of the other vendors such as Quicken/Intuit or HR Block etc., where you have the option of being able to file taxes online. These programs are quite detailed and will ask you all the relevant questions.

It is good enough to reach USPS by April at least fro filing within USA.

By the way, which ORS office you send to depend upon where you live.
For overseas filing, Philadelhpa is the one
