tired of being an F-1 student,

I will mail my I-485, 130, 131, 765 etc. tomorrow, when can I leave school? I heard that as soon as I get a receipt notice from the USCIS, I can quit school.

You need to file for I-765 as well. It's EAD or Employment Authorization Documentiosn which usually takes about 2 weeks to 2months depending on your location

You are maintaining your F1 status because you want to be in a valid legal status here. After you file your I-485, you get your NOA with your A#. This is when your Pending AOS status kicks in. At this point, it would be safe to let go of your F-1. But.... If you wish to work, you need to apply for I-765 and I-131 if you wish to travel.

so even if I lose my F-1 status for a few days before I get NOA from INS, I will have no problem coming back to US with an AP? Thanks.

If you are talking about the 3/10 year ban, it would be enforced if you had illegally stayed in the US for over 180 days. It normally shouldnt be a problem for a few days, but to be on the safe side of the law, you should try to maintain legal status as much as you can. If you are tired of studies or going to college, take off (but dont quit school) for a couple of days till you get your NOA. This way you can be in legal status till you get your NOA and then you can quit going to school altogether.
My 2 cents...

Keep yourself in status

I fall into the same situation with you zhm.

I got married at the end of March. I was doing OPT and it ended enf of May. After that i had 30 days to get back into school or to change status. I was admitted to a school program before this, I am doing good.

I got my Notice at the end of June. I have talked to some people who is familiar with the situation ( I did not have the money to talk to a lawyer), technically, you married a USC, the previous records of overstaying or illegally working can be ruled out. There might be some paperwork you have to file out or some interviews to do so (ask carefully before you take this risk).

To maintain a F1 status, from what I heard and in my opinion is a back up. If your application failed, then you will be ask to leave because you have no status. On the other hand, if you are still a F1 student, then at least you are still in a legal status, and you are apply for a review of your case or whatever is needed.

I am taking my classes now, and plan to finish the degree even after I get my green card. I just do not have to maintain full time status after that.

Hope this will help.
