Change of address P.O. Box?
Hey there,
I received a stamp on my green card on 10/20 and was told that I will receive my Green Card in a couple of weeks. We're planning on moving sometime in the future, and I was thinking of getting a P.O. box, so I don't have to go through the trouble (and spend the money) of filing the AR-11 every time we move. Does USCIS accept P.O. boxes as an address? And if so, can I file for the change of address at any time? Do I have to call them and give them the P.O. box number too? Thank you for all the help you can give me. |

Anyone out there who can help me with this?
I don't want to file for change of address, pay the fees, only to find afterwards that you're not allowed to have a P.O. box address. Also, I don't want to do anything against the law and I don't know if it's allowed. Thanks |

By law... you are required to file AR-11 everytime you change your address. Also, the sponsor should file I-865 if the sponsorship obligation is still in effect. Having a P.O box is only a convenience and does not give you the privilege of completely bypassing the law.
Everyone in the US has to inform the govt of their change of address. The non-citizens file AR-11 whereas citizens file the 'voters change of address' form/ I-865 to inform of a change of address. |

Thanks for the help.
Does the sponsor have to file the I-865 even if I have a job now? Does this mean that everytime we move, we have to file an AR-11 and I-865? If we're getting a P.O. box, then how do I inform them of our residence address? If I file the AR-11 with the P.O. box number, then that won't be the residence address... Thanks |

So as long as the obligation is in effect, the sponsor should file I-865 whenever there is a change of address. Yes, you should file AR-11 till you become a USC, after that you file a voters change of address form . The US govt keeps track of everyone here....You cannot use a P.O box address for AR-11. You need to provide a physical address as you dont live in the P.O. box

If I change address does the USPS forward my USCIS mail? I know that I found something about it before, and I even answered the same question before BUT now I just can't find in what I base my own response (I know I know sound weird and crazy but knowing me I wouldn't be suprise hehehe), but anyway...I found at other forum that some people haven't experience any problem with the forwarding services from USPS.
Let me know, is not that I am moving now but I got the curiosity and probably you know? what I should do is to call the USPS...nevermind. Okay from my curiosity I decided to call the USPS...and gosh I don't know WHY the worst people are in customer service! I know I shouldn't generalize but buff oh my! anyway they told me that it depends. What that means? I don't know. But the guy couldn't explain it at the end he says that I should contact USCIS so again I am in point cero. Last edited by cherr1980; 7th November 2005 at 05:08 PM. |
