Anyone applied/received SS card recently?

Hello, everyone,

I applied for a card on July 20 at my local SSA office, Tampa Bay area, FL. They said it will take 4-8 weeks for them to process it since they have to verify it with DHS. Funny, funny, I have been waiting 3.5 months for EAD, finally had to go to TPA office to ask for it myself. And now they have to verify it, whatever. It's been over 2 months. First they told me on the phone that it came back from DHS and they sent me the letter. After waiting 2 weeks for that imaginary letter that never came, of course, I went there. Well, loooks like they still didn't get it back from Miami DHS. Now that's interesting here. Ghost story. How long do i have to wait, anyone knows???

Take your receipt that they gave to you and go to the same SSA office and ask if they can check there with DHS through their system (probably you must wait like 2 hours). If not then I really don't know what to tell you. In my case the same SSA office check with DHS directly. I had to wait for like 2 hours but it was worth it. The next labor day I went back again and they give me my number in a letter and in 5 business days the card was on my mailbox! Around this forum this similar case happen several times that some SSA don't check and the person most wait for several weeks. I don't know WHY if it's just to check the EAD info with the DHS database and that takes few hours.

I did go there few days ago. Lady looked in the pc and said i have to wait. It still didn't come back from Miami INS. It's just ridiculous that this happens in our computer-based society in 21st century.
