Going back to school and retrogression

Dear All:

So far my I-140 is approved and CSC has received my RFE for birth certificate on my 485. I will have to go through an interview since I have had DWI.

I have heard of many cases where people have gotten to the interview and their 485 has been approved but they haven't been given a visa number due to retrgoression.

If I do get the 485 approved during interview and if they will be waiting only for the visa number, then can I leave my job and
a) Get another job without AC21
b) Go back to school if I want

I would really appreciate if you can provide some input on these questions.
