Changing job before GC
My situation is a little different. My previous employer sponsored my H1B and GC in 1997. The wage for my title was $57K per year. The company business was getting worse and worse and the boss laid me off (no letter). But he continued sponsoring my GC (thanks to him). I then started my own company without changing any visa status. In 2000, my GC got approved. In 2002, I joined a big IT company till now.
My question is am I OK to apply citizenship? During the last 5 years, I made a lot more than $57K/year that my previous company agreed to pay after GC. Is it a good reason? Thanks for any advice. |

Just go ahead ....
Most probably they won't even look into your employment history. They are concerned with you paying taxes and filiing taxes regularly. Quote:

Thanks for answering my question. I've searched the whole forum, didn't find the denial case you mentioned. Is it possible you can provide a link? Thanks a lot, and have a nice day! |

Something else must be there that triggered the detail investigation. I doubt it that s/he got denied solely based on not working with employer.
Kindly post that link, I am also interested. Quote:

But you have to really appreciate ****'s efforts (barring fear mongering posts) as he spents relentless hours on this board posting and answering queries. Bottom line is that it may or may not affect your case -- the reason being, after the infamous AC-21, one can change the employer even after 6 months while 485 is pending. So, there you go. It's a highly speculative area and no one knows for sure what USCIS has under their sleeves but just because something might happen in the future and worrying too much about that and have sleepless nights is not the way to go. If you are that paranoid, you might not be able to walk in the road or go in a car/plane/etc., as anything can happen! |

Changing job before GC
Allow me to put the question in different words as per my understanding. I am working for a company X and I am going to CP interview for company Y soon. I wish to continue working for X after getting GC.
What's the best way to secure my legal status? Can I work for both companies concurrently(onviously very few hours for Y)? Should I get some kind of future appoitment letter from Y and then think again? Or is it OK to be in employee/employer relation with Y without actually being on payroll? Any inputs are appreciated
