Work card? Potentially dumb question.

Hi,

I posted previously---my husband and I are in the beginning stages of applying for a green card. A few potential employers have asked mentioned a "work card". Is this a Visa? Does anyone know if it's easier to get a work card than a green card or if it's even possible to get one if you're applying for a green card. I know a green card can take a while, so we were just looking into options for the interim.

Its the Employment Authorization Card (EAD).

Yes, if you have filed your I-485, you can apply for EAD and receive it between 60-90 days. If you are planning to file I-485, you can concurrently apply for I-765

Post it of an adjustment of status process...sorry if I miss some steps and more waiting time

1. Read all the instructions of the forms, check the fees, check the supportive documents. Check all the instructions again. Read and read and read. You can apply for work authorization I-765. You can apply for Advance PArole for travel IF you haven't overstay before apply.

2. After filing the forms you will received the NOA's or receipts from your forms (can take few days or a couple of weeks) meaning that USCIS received your forms. Doesn't mean that is granted or denial, just received. Your AOS is pending.
3. Read what the receipts says. Some will say that you must make an appointment for FP & Biometrics, others will say that you must wait until you received the appointment letter for it. Apparently they are changing some procedures. We don't know why. But is the way it is.
4. Make the FP & biometrics at the ASC. FBI will check your fingerprints in their database.

5. After that,your status online can indicate that your work authorization is approved and they will mail your ead card when it's ready.

In any time some stuff are check in your file and if there a documentation missing or more info wanted they will send you a RFE (further documentation).

6. Receiving your EAD card. The waiting period average it suppose to be 15 working days, but apparently are taking a longer time these days. PATIENCE TIME.
7. After received the EAD card, apply for SSN and driver's license. (If he is not in another non-immigrant visa that alouds him to have already authorization to work, a SSN or a driver's license)
8. WORK.(if he wants)
9. Waiting for interview letter. CAN TAKE MONTHS depend on your DO (district office). PATIENCE TIME. The times in LA are very promising. Meanwhile they review all your background and name check.
10. Interview letter.
11. Granted or Denial.

By your previous posts and this post looks like you haven't read all the instructions at the www.uscis.gov or the forms. Please BEFORE filing you should read all very carefully that safe you time and money and other's people time that are in line.

In general, you can check everything on USCIS website first...then you will find out many things when you will be IN the process and understand many of the things we are talking about.
