Can I live in a city other than the one where my LC was approved?
I have a troubling issue at hand once I complete my CP (which is soon). My LC was approved in city A and I intend to live in city B for 4 months, after which we permanently want to move to city C. City A and (B and C) are in neighbouring states. I am a software consultant, so my job can be located out of my LC office in city A. But can I reside in city B as soon as my GC is approved. The distance between cities A and B is 200 miles. Any repercussions in the future when filing for citizenship? My employer may also push me to live in city A for legal reasons (not for employment reasons). There is an extremely small chance we may opt to live in city A after 4 months (move from city B). So, please reply with any of your experiences. Thanks in advance.

When you say "My LC was approved in city A ", does it mean that your LC had any geographical restrictions ???
As long as the LC does not have any geographical limitations, you are permitted to move around. For eg: My LC was approved when i was in Minneapolis. I moved to Boston area before my GC was approved. It turned out fine for me. I am not sure if it is different in CP. may be experts out here could give you more info.

pv1976,
Thanks a bunch for your response. What do you mean by geographical restrictions? I am pretty sure that when we filed for LC, we did mention that the job location was in city A (I don't have the LC in front of me right now). What that means is that the opening was in that office. We normally fly out to the client's location which can be anywhere in US/Canada and work remotely at times from our residences. |
