Accepting Partnership on an H1-B Visa

Hello

I am currently on an H1B visa. An opportunity has come my way in terms of becoming a partner in a business. My friend (US-Citizen) is starting an online business and has offered me a partnership in the company based on certain investment on my part. The business plan looks very solid and before I accept the partnership I wanted to make sure that I am not violating any immigration rules which may jeopardize my green card application.

If the business does well, the pay offs will start soon. Can I accept the dividends legally? What are the rules governing this scenario? What should be my involvement in the business to prevent any legal ramifications?

Thank you
