Travel with G.C. during probation

Please help. One of my family member was covicted for shop lifting and is under A.R.D. probation for one year. Can he travel to India for a month. If yes, does he need any permission from USCIS. Any reply from a similar situation will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply batilka. Did you travel by air or by road. ARD stands for Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition, where you pay some fine, do some community service and stay clean on probation for one year and after that one year all charges are dropped. The court has already given travel permission but they are not sure if immigration clearance is required. And no one knows any answer to this question in immigration. Thats why I would like to find out if any one has experienced a similar situation

Won't it be advisable for him to check with USCIS?

You NEVER need immigration's permission to leave the US, only to come back. If you have a GC and are returning after less than 180 days, you should be fine.
