getting federal financial aid as GC
Hi
I arrived on a family sponsored GC. At the time , we had to give a sponsor letter with some minimum income requirement. I came here 1 month ago. I am planning to attend school. Can I apply for federal financial aid immediately or do I need to wait. I would appreciate your response. |

Should be ok for educational related assistancd. Even middle class families need help. Few people pay the sticker price at private schools for example.
Check with the financial aid office of the university/college and they will be able to give you detailed information on eligibility. good luck. sadiq |

king 501,
Yes, as a PR you are entitled for federal financial aid. Just visit fafsa.edu.gov and create a PIN then submit your fafsa application as soon as possible. It would be helpful if you have your or your families tax returns done for 2004. Good luck,

Financial aid for brother outside US
Ram_FRM_RIC and other Gurus,
Can this Federal Finance Student Aid be requested for a brother of PR. In this case brother is outside US (India) and planning to come out here on F1 visa and do MBA. A friend of mine did tell me that PR can co-sign the loan amt for the MBA and get from any bank ... But just wanted to explore other options too ... Appreciate your feedback |

Abhimanyu,
Only American Citizens and PRs are eligible for FinAid. So your brother will not be able to get a FinAid. But as your friend suggested, you should be able to co-sign your brother on a Student Loan, which he will have to return unlike FinAid. And almost all the banks have that kind of loans. Good luck,
