Re-entry permit outside US

Hi Guys,

I have a question regarding the REP.

Currently I am in US and planning to move back to India in less than 6 months. But this is not 100% sure. So, if I give suppose India's address in the application for REP delivery and if I am in US when the REP is ready in India to be picked up, what will happen? Do I have to go there personally to pickup the delivery of REP? or Someone else can also go?

Pl. help.

Thanks in adv.

I am in the exact same situation. I was in the US when I applied for the REP and the REP got approved in December 2004 before I left the US. I had asked for the REP to be sent to the Chennai US Consulate.
Once I got the notice that it was approved I contacted the Chennai Consulate via Email and just yesterday, they told me that they would mail it to my Indian Address which I provided in the Email. No one needs to go to the Consulate. I am expecting it within the next few days.

Hi RG585,

Thanks for your response.

When and where did you get yr approval notice? Can we get it at India's address in Mumbai? I am afraid that even before getting the approval notice, I might have to leave for India.

How to get the email address of the mumbai consulate and do they respond to our emails?

Thanks in Adv.

Dont worry about it. Just go ahead and apply for the REP and give your Indian Address. It will be mailed to you over there. You will get a Receipt Number within 10 days of mailing the form. Just register with that online so you will get an approval email also at the same time. That should be enough for you.

Chennai Consulate was extremely prompt in responding to emails, I always got a response the very next day after I send an email. Dont know about Mumbai Consulate though.

Here is the website for the Mumbai Consulate Contact Info:

Cool Re Entry Permit

Hi,

I applied for my reentry permit in Jan 2004. It was issued to my in November 2004 and I was asked to collect it from the Delhi Embassy.

As I am in the US, I asked them to mail it to me out here. I made this request via e-mail.

They have asked the Nebraska center to send it to me here.

Lets hope I receive it soon.

LoF

Smile Re direct Re entry permit to US address

I applied for Reentry permit in Jan 2004. Asked them to send it to India address.

Got notification of it being ready in Delhi in November 2004.

I sent a mail to Delhi embassy asking them to send it to my US address.

Received it in my US address in Feb 2005.
