Promotion and GC

I am currently awaiting my 485 approval based on a LC for a sofware engineering position. I have an opportunity to become a software engineering manager.

According to the company lawyers, I can accept the managerial position until the GC is approved. Once the GC is approved, I must revert to the software engineer's position specified in the LC. There are, of course, a number of practical difficulties with such reversal.

Is there any way to work around this issue ? I have the full intent of continuing with the employer after my GC - albeit in a different role.

In other words, is there any possibility to accept a promotion / additional responsibility during the GC process or immediately after GC approval ?

why can't you take the promotion after the GC approval? Since you would be working for the same company/team (I assume) why is this a problem?

I thought you only cannot move to a diff. job immediately after GC? Shouldn't a promotion be taken as well?

Company lawyer's interpretation is that the beneficiary of GC should work in the job stated in the LC for "some time" (I guess 6 months).
