Laid off 2 weeks after PP stamping with travel upcoming

Hi everyone,

I got my 485 approval on Jan 3, and my passport stamped Jan 14. I found out I'm getting laid off this week. I have a trip abroad starting this weekend.

I've looked through this forum extensively, and it looks like I will not have any trouble getting back into the US. Am I right? Or is there any reason for me not to travel abroad right now given that I am getting laid off by my sponsoring employer?

Thanks so much (sorry if I am repeating a commonly-asked question)! Any responses would be much appreciated.

You should be ok..

As far as I know, if you have the I-551 stamp, it does not matter that you have been laid off or if you are unemployed.

If out of theg country for more than 6 months, the person
is seeking readmission, so he may have to go thru admissibility
criteria. One of them is p[ublic charge criteria and
unemployment might be an issue

And if he go abroad, he may not be eligible
for UI benefits

Thanks!

Thanks very much for the quick replies, I'm going to be away for just 2 weeks, so I'm not worried about reentry permits etc.

Seeking readmission is different from re-entry permit
More than 12 month out, you need a re-entry permit,
but more than 6 but less than 12 months out , you
don't need a reentry permit, but you are seeking
readmission.

Since you want to be only 2 weeks out, neither
is applicable.

But it is still possible they might ask you
where and for whiom you work.

What do you think is a suitable response to this? I'm leaving the US the day of my layoff. I also have a job offer letter for a future job.

Thanks!

Just answer the truth: "I am currently in between jobs."
