Immigrants and the Law
There was a criminal case in which an immigrant was involved. He did a crime and I do not protect him or say that he is innocent. The question is about the sentence. I have heard a comment on the TV that since this person is an immigrant he will receive a 10-year sentence instead of life sentence just because he is an immigrant and immigrants get lower sentences in comparison with the citizens for the same crime. Is this true? Have you heard anything like that?

If the person is not a US citizen, any crime with a maximum sentence of 1 year or more makes that person deportable. So, the person almost certainly will be deported.
Usually in criminal courts, do they ask if a defendant is a citizen or not?

USA and many countries have consular agreements that
obliged them to inform the each other about
the othe rcountry's citien arrested
