Quitted before GC (Employment Based) Approved

I quitted my job with company A and have returned home for medical school for several months. Today, with much surprised, I received a notice from the INS that my application to adjust to PR status has been approved (dated 18 Oct 2004), and I am asked me to go to a local INS office in the US to complete the processing for my Alien Registration Card. I thought my application would be cancelled if my employment at company A is terminated as it is employment based. Any suggestion on how to handle the situation? I wouldn't mind going to medical school in the US if the option is available. Thanks in advanced.

It does not get terminated automatically. Either your employer or yourseld have to let them know. But you are lucky to get approved. You can get your passport stamped, but in future while filling for citizenship, your quitting the employer (i guess he is your sponser too) before approval of GC and thereafter will be an issue as the GC was granted to you only on the condition that this employer had offered you a full time employment. You will need to consult an attorney for that, but for the moment, it's party time for you.

Thanks for the prompt reply. May I stamp the passport from overseas? I don't currently have a US visa.

I understand that. Now that I know my options, I can start to consider the prons and cons of going to med school and becoming a doctor in the US. Thanks very much, ****.

If I want to, yes, but I'd rather not to take that route.

Well, unless you want to run the risk of loosing your hard earned GC, you might want to do that, at least for 6 months or so.
If one day, they look at your travel record and find that you just came to the country to get your stamp and left immediately afterward without working for the company, they CAN yank it.

The minute you get the GC, you can quit the employer. There is no need to stay with the employer, if you get better avenues.

Your case is very simple, you were outside the country, you came back, and that will not cause any problems.

You should think twice before mocking at someones situation. Put yourself in this situation and think what would have happened to you if you followed the advise that you posted. And please everyone know ****'s contribution .............so .... OFF.
