Keep permanent resident status
Hi, anyone knows what is the requirement to keep the PR status after we get green card. Someone told me we have to stay in US more than half year every year, otherwise, we may loss the status. While another guy said it is okay as long as we do not continuously stay outside of state for more than half year, which means we can virtually stay outside of the state all the time, as long as we have a entry every six month. I appreciate if you guys can share your thought on it.

I have a similar question. Although most of it is already answered by ****.
My parents got their GC last year and they came and stayed here for a month or so. They went back in October 2003. They are coming again in September this year. Will they face any problem on the port of entry? The reason they were outside US for so long is "they had to wind up their business and property in their home country. They have all the intentions to stay in US permanently." Will this be OK? They applied for their SSN before they left but it never came. So there was no tax return filed on their behalf. I really appreciate all the information that has already been posted on this site and any extra info that anybody can provide... Thanks. |
