just married- what name to use on 485?

OK, CDN just married USC, going to file I-130/485/765/131 all together. Which name do I use on forms: my maiden name (which is the name on all my other docs) or my new married last (family) name?

depends on you.
Which name do you want on your GC and in the pasport etc ?

For ex if you want to go ahead with your married name, file the papers with your married name.(its ok to have the supporting docs like birth certificate etc in maiden name). Get you passport changed to married name and later on show that during the interview as a proof of your married name...

If you want to go ahead with maiden name, then just file with maiden name. nothing else is required.

Its just that the married name application shows further proof that this marriage is not for sake of GC only...

goodluck

Little more info on this..

Hi SWaiting..
I am a USC and I filed AOS for my wife including I130,I485,765 etc. We've used her maiden name in all the forms and documents including passport, lease papers, marriage certificate etc. We have our AOS interview very shortly and were wondering is it a good idea to change name that time if we have that option? Was kinda confused as to change the name that time or do it later when she gets the citizenship? What do you recommend?
Thanks...

jamesbond911,
best way of name change is to change the name in the passport first and then show it at AOS interview. But I dont know how it work once the I-130 is approved under old name..

so you need to check with your local ins office..

goodluck...

name change

I had intended on keepingmy maiden name, however, you made a good point about the married name indicating a 'real' marriage (which is is!). How problematic would it be to get my name changed on my CDN passport? I have to use copies of my passport info and 1-94 as evidence ASAP and i assume the name change will take some time. Would you suggest filing my inital paperwork with what I have, but ensuring I change my passport to my married name in the 3-4 years i have before I'll even get my AOS interview?

File all your paperwork with the married name.
along with the forms, send the marriage certificate and old passport copies etc..

Once the paper work is filed, you will have sufficient time from that point onwards till your AOS interview (which will happen normally in a year in NJ) to get your pasport changed.

I followed this route..

gooduck
