OR and marriage

Perhaps an unusal question but I thought it would fit best here:

My girlfriend and I will both go independently for EB1-OR with the help of our companies over the several next months. Since we want to increase both our chances for a green card and were thinking of marrying anyway for a longer time already (of course not because of the green card) we thought we could add each other to our green card applications as a spouse. Originally we didn't plan to marry this year before starting the green card application but we might thinking about to change this if we get clarification for one issue: In the case you don't file concurrent for I-140 and I-485, can you add your spouse after you got I-140 approved and when you file for I-485 (which means that we could marry middle of next year as planned) or do you have to add your spouse already when you file for I-140 (which means we would have to marry in the next few month) ?

I know it is an unusual question but it would be great if somebody could help us with an answer .
