Question for ****
Joe,
I know you don't like being addressed directly like this in the subject matter but I wanted to know your thoughts on this urgently. My brother is an MD and works in a hospital in Texas. He is still waiting for his I485 approval. He recently traveled to a country that requires special registration. When he departed from here, he did his special registration at the airport. At the port of entry while returning, he asked the officer if he has to do any more special registration after arriving. He was told no. He went back home relaxed. It was after three months when a few INS guys arrived at his work place hospital asking him all kinds of questions. They told him that he was supposed to go for special registration within 30 days after arriving to USA. They told him that they had an opened file for his arrest and deport procedings. But they also told that they are not going to do this because registration process is no longer required since December 2nd. They said they had to come in anyway to talk tohim and to let him know about it and to be able to close the file afterwards. My brother is extremely worried now. Even though they told him that they are closing the file, is this going to cause any problems in getting his green card approved? Do you think that he will have any trouble traveling now while on H1-B waiting for 485. There are several immigration checkposts (due to close mexico border) around where he lives and he is now even afraid to go out of his immediate residential area. My brother has always been a law-abiding resident with and is extra carefull when it comes to immigraton matters. He is at a very high post at his hospital. This was an honest mistake on his part. What are your thoughts? |
