Going abroad with Green Card
My wife, who is a green card holder for about a year and our son (US citizen) is planning to stay in India for about 7 months, from December 30th 2003. Does she have to apply for Reentry permit? Is there any risk in staying abroad for about 7 months? This is not about employment, but casual visit. Does she need to carry any documents other than Green Card and passport when returning back?
Thanks in advance fizk |

****:
I read this article and just out of curiosity had a question: A para from the link mentioned above.... "That they were lawful permanent residents when they departed the United States. -- That when they departed they intended to return to the United States and have maintained this intent: -- That they are returning from a temporary visit abroad and, if the stay was protracted, that it was caused by reasons beyond their control and for which they were not responsible; and -- That they are eligible for the immigrant visa in all other respects. " So does this mean that if one who has a GC cannot go back to the home country to explore and take up career opportunities and return after 1 year but before 2 years of departure from usa. The reason I am asking is bcoz the above para states that extended travel outside usa exceeding 1 year and less than 2 years should be due an uncontrollable situation? Would appreciate it if you could throuw some light!
