Anyone lost passport while in India with greencard stamping(no plastic card)?

My friend lost his passport in India with Greencard stamping.He
don't have a copy of the passport with stamping on it.no plastic
card yet.His wife's(dependent) passport has stamping on it and
she is with him in India.
We have contacted his attorney's office and they said they will
look for his approval notice and will get back.We are planning to
fax the approval notice and letter from Attorney.
My friend is working on getting new passport using the copy of passport.

Anyone with any suggestions on how to get the stamping done at Chennai consulate..

I will ask convey the same thing to my friend.
I will update this thread with details later.
They still have 24 hrs time for departure and I hope that they find
the passport.

Hi ****,

What type of visa is issued to people who go through CP?
Also if my friend manages to get SB-1 visa could you tell me if he
has to get I-551 stamped again here in US?

Appreciate your quick response.

I told my friend to take the following things to Chennai Consulate.
1. New Passport
2. Approval notice (Fax from Attorney)
3. Letter from Attorney stating that they processed the case etc.
4. Color copy of Wife's passport with stamping.
5. Flight tickets

Now, if anyone can tell me if he needs to make an appointment or
is there a particular day of the week for PRs to walk-in at the
consulate. He is going to check with others in India but since it
is weekend there I am trying to gather more info.
