Interview Postponement/Vaccination

Hi folks,
This forum rocks and I find answers to all my questions just by searching the old messages. Now I have couple of questions specific to my case. Thanks in advance for every one.


1. We are planning to have a baby and I am expecting CP interview call in 6-7 months. ( I have applied for 140, couple of months ago). When the interview appointment comes thru, I may not wish to go since my wife might be 6-7 months pregnant that time. In that case, will I be able to postpone the Interview date by 3-4 months, siting my wife's situation?
2. Or is it possible to get all the required vacination shots(for my wife) before she becomes pregnant.
(Right now we don't have any previous vaccination records)
In case if I will have to have my wife get the vacination shots before the pregnancy, can anyone tell (a) what are the list of required vacinations(I did find out some vaccine names in this forum. But since they are all abbreivated, I thought I will pose this question again just incase if I have to inform my doctor clearly) and (b) is it OK to have them adminstered by any doctor.
4. If I get interview call in 4 months time (Assuming I am lucky), I have no problem in my wife flying out and going for the interview. In that case, Is there any chance that my wife be given exception from the Vaccination/Xray (Since she is pregnant)? I have no problem getting the vacination shots/Xray after the delivery date.

Though not everyone would have faced this kind of problem, I would greatly appreciate any inputs from all the Gurus out there.

You are very optimistic about your possible dates. I 140 is taking 6 months to a year in most service centers except California. You may expect an interview 6-8 months from the approval date of I 140. If your wife is pregnant, she will be exempt from Xray and the MMR vaccination. MMR stands for Measles- Mumps- Rubella vaccine. She can safely take the Tetanus vaccine. If she has had Chicken pox as a kid, she will be exempt from that as well. I am sure that if you get a call in her last trimester of pregnancy, you can request for a postponement. Good luck.

I am so much relieved on hearing this.

One question about I-140 processing time.My friend who applied for I140 (EB3, Substitution method) during march, has got his I-140 approved by July. So I thought It takes around the same time for everyone.
Regarding vaccination, though both my wife and myself had got Chicken Pox vaccine adminstered when we were kid, we don't have any medical regarding to substantiate it. So I guess we need to take Chicken Pox Vaccine as well.

I-140 processing time primarily depends on 2 factors:
1. Category file under (EB1/ EB2/ EB3/ or something else)
2. Service Center filed with (Calif/ Texas/ Nebraska/ Vermont)

Points 1 and 2 above will determine the approx time to get I-140 approval. It can be anywhere from 2 months (EB2 for Calif) to 11 months (EB3 Vermont). But I totally agree with Rajeev that it is atleast averaging 6 months.

If you can answer 1 and 2 then it will be easier to determine how much time it would take for your I-140 approval assuming there is no RFE. Let us know 1 and 2 for you.

As far as immunization records, most of us do not have them. Like your case, my wife and I have had chicken pox when we were small but have no record of it. I will tell the doctor when i go for the immigration medical checkup and do as the doctor says, which may mean taking an additional shot, which is fine.

My attorney filled I-140, EB3 Category (Substitution Method), the last week of June/03 and is marked for CP (Chennai).
It was filled at Texas Service Centre.

My friend's case (whom I had mentioned earlier that he got I-140 approval in 4 months) is exactly similar exept that he had opted for Adjustment of Status. That's the reason I had assumed it will take the same time frame for me as well.
But the Gurus knows better.
kdivekar, please let me know how long it might take for I-140 approval, assuming there is no RFE. I fully understand that it is a gestimate, but it will help me to hear it from the Gurus.

Currently Texas SC for EB3 category is processing 12/31/2002. So in other words there is a 8 month backlog. So assume it will take 8 months for your I-140 approval assuming there are no RFE's (Request for evidence). It does not matter whether one has filed for AOS/ opted for CP, I-140 for EB3 at TSC will take about 8 months. And then another 6-8 months for CP interview at Chennai.
