    Help please ( L2 to B1/B2 conversion )

    Hi ,
I am on L2 visa. My wife on L1.Its been a year here in US.Now her company wants her to be back in India. I need to be in US for atleast 6 more months to finish off with my exams.
    I have a valid B1/B2 visa also.
    My question :
Can i change my visa status from L2 to B1/B2 without going to India.
I heard people go to Canada or Mexico to change their Visa status.
Will there be any problem in getting it done from other country and not India.
Someone please help.In desperate need of an answer ASAP.
    Thanks everyone.

They do not change their status by going to Canada or Mexico. What they do is leave the US, surrender their I-94 and then seek re-entry on a new/different visa. In your case, you may depart the US, surrender your L-2 based I-94 and then seek re-entry on your B-2. The risk you are taking, you might be denied entry on B-2.

I did not say it is a bad idea. I just pointed out the risk. The same risk applies if you return from India.
