    Address Check

What kind of address checks does USCIS do while processing Citizenship application?

My situation is, I filed N400 with an address and also got the license with that address just before applying for citizenship - a friend's address where I can get all communications. Currently, since I got my GC, I lived in a different state but always filed taxes in the state I filed the application with -
the same address I currently have license with and applied N400 with.
I mentioned only the address I got the GC with and current license address as part of answer to Part 6 (information about residence where I lived in last 5 years). I did not mention the address I am living anywhere on the application.

My concern is will USCIS be able to find address I am currently live in by any other means (public records / credit check etc.,) and what kind of checks they do on addresses and what is the best way to answer the question if they infact ask about it?

The US Postal Service has a partnership with companies that send you credit offers, advertising offers, etc and USPS adds you up on their database. Therefore, you exist on the USPS database twice with the same name and last name but in two different states. All of this information constitutes what is called a consumer report and YES, all govt agencies have access to it. So technically if the USCIS wants to verify your address with your name, YES, it will come up in two different addresses at the same time. If they were to ask you for it, and you said NO, you will get in a lot of trouble, because they already know, and all they have to do is get you on lying.

And this has nothing to do with credit check and DMV records. So if you know one of the requirements is to show a permanent address, that is what you should show. Otherwise, you might get into trouble.

    Thanks rick92.

Are they actually checking these records, credit bureaus & DMV records? other than the IBIS and FBI name and fingerprint checks.

Anybody have any insights on these checks?

What if somebody maintains two addresses? How do we handle it with Citizenship...that is the reason why I have used the address that paid Taxes as the current/main address. Confusing thing is whether I should say anything about other address at all during the interview when they ask
"where do you live now?" - do I have to mention the other address which is not my Taxing Address etc.,

You have to use your best judgment. It would be silly to find somebody from USCIS Records who is having a bad day and who happens to find more info than required when they run your name and guess what, your name comes up on the screen and he makes a note on your file so that the interviewing officer ask you a straight question just to see what you are going to respond.

Remember, these people are professionals and when they catch something funny, they are going to ask questions. So be prepared if you have anything that is not very clear to them. And don't volunteer info nobody is asking.
