26 months in Houston (and counting)

I have been waiting for 26 months since my original application for naturalization and wanted to learn of other people's experiences in Houston or other places (particularly their experience after the long name check was done).

I sent my N-400 form back in March 2006, got my FP done within three weeks, and went for an interview in early May, 2006, which I passed except that my name check was not completed. Then nothing from USCIS for nearly two years. I called the Service Center many times, went for an Infopas at least 5 times, wrote to the senators, first lady, etc - the response was always the same (when I got any response) "name check is not completed." Then in response to my recent status update request, USCIS sent me a letter that "my name check has been cleared" as of 4/11/2008 and that I should be now expecting my interview letter (although I already had my interview in 2006). Within a week or so of that letter, I got second FP appointment on 5/3/2008 since my original FP done in March 2006 were experied.

The questions I have concern people's experiences in a similar situation. A friend of mine in Chicago waited for her name check to clear for ca. 18 months after she had her interview. She said that once she got her second FP appointment, her oath letter followed about three-four weeks later (without a second interview). When I went yet for another Infopas just before my second FP, I was told that if I already had the interview, I would not be needing another. But then who knows?

    My time line:

    N-400 sent 03/02/2006
    first FP late March 2006
    interview 05/03/2006
    NC cleared 04/11/2008
    second FP 05/03/2008
    possible second interview ????
    oath ?????

They will either schedule a second interview or send you a form asking you to answer a few questions to determine if anything has changed in your status since first interview.

If I remember correctly the same lady IO at my last Infopas said (in response to my statement that my interview was two years ago and that I traveled outside the US five times) that "they will ask me most likely about my last trip at the oath ceremony." As I understand the oath letter has the questions regarding "any changes" on the reverse side and most people fill it out before they get to the oath.
I am not sure I trust 100% the info that I am given at these Infopases. One would think that when they sent me the letter about my NC being cleared, they would have known that I already had my interview almost two years prior.
