Please help...options after finishing H period

    Hi,

I am PGY 3 Internal medicine resident, I was wondering if you could please give suggestions on what options I have in this situation.

I entered USA in August 2000 on H4 and in June 2003 transferred to H1 B visa sponsored by my residency program and I will be completing 6 years on H by 2006 August.

I am planning to do MPH (can be completed in 1 year) in Harvard, which will be sponsored by my residency program after I finish my residency i.e.August 2006.

Now Can anybody suggest how I can maintain visa status after August 2006?

And if I take F1 visa to do MPH, can I still start GC process under future employment if I can find an employer?

Can I convert to EAD if I get one by the time I finish MPH (August 2007) without leaving country?

    Dear drbrv,

First of all are you interested in doing MPH for career advancement or just trying to find a way out of your soon to expire H1b?

The reason I ask is, I am a full time faculty in one of the medical schools in midwest and the school offers MPH and MS in epidemiology. These cources are free for any residents and faculty, though it is very difficult for residents to enroll given the long hours they work. As far as I know many medical schools offer the same. So my suggestion is to join as faculty in one of the medical schools and you can easily do MPH without spending a lot and earning a decent salary.

    Best wishes,
    Prasad

    F1 is your option. Good

Catch hold of a sponser and start doing GC straight away.(Once your residency is over while you are in F1) You can not come back to H1 unless you spend 1 full year out of USA. You can spend one year in canada , if you find a job there.

This all depends on EB2 category priority date. Your priority date may not be before than Aug 2006.
