RE: CSC Director Donald Nuefeld's Backlog Reduction Plan

    Dear Congresswoman Anna Eshoo;

Most of members of ImmigratoinPortal.Com especially in California
would appreciate your having got CSC Director Don Neufeld's response
    about EB I-485 backlog reduction.

However, nobody can believe that he would achieve his goal of I-485
backlog reduction plan because his plan is not specific and also
his excuse about TPS El Salvador is almost the same as one year ago,
and actually the I-485 backlog has never been reduced
even after 3/9/2003 deadline of EAD for TPS El Salvador.

We started sending e-mail to claim against Don Neufeld this week
and a couple of dozen of members have already sent as attached,
but no one has received a reply from him so far as usual.

Could you (or your staff) call to Don Neufeld at (949) 389-3050
to discuss about the I-485 backlog reduction plan
and make him provide us the plan specific enough and achievable
so that we can believe ?

    Sincerely,

I got this reply from Anna Eshoo

Thank you for sending your e-mail to my office. In order to better serve my constituents, I have also set up a brand new way to communicate over the Internet. By going to my Web site at http://www.house.gov/eshoo you can send a Web-based message to me. I will then respond to your e-mail address.

If you are not a constituent of the 14th Congressional District of California, I urge you to contact your own representative (if you are a constituent, please include your full postal address). You can find a complete listing of U.S. Representatives at http://www.house.gov and U.S. Senators at http://www.senate.gov. Unfortunately, due to heavy volume of Internet correspondence from all around the world I am unable to respond to people outside of my Congressional District. However, please feel free to visit my Web site at http://www.house.gov to get more information.

    Thank you for your interest.

Sent to Anna Eshoo (I'm on her district):

RE: Specifics on CSC’s I-485 Backlog Reduction Plan

    Honorable Congresswoman Anna Eshoo,

I was delighted to read on ImmigratoinPortal.Com that CSC Director Don Neufeld has promised you to significantly increase the number of adjudicators assigned to processing I-485 cases once the deadline for TPS El Salvador is passed on 3/9/2004, and that he further suggested to you that the processing time for I-485 employment-based petitions will be reduced to 12 months or less by the end of September 2004.

However, apparently the same promise was made last year, and I-485 processing times did not decrease after 3/9/2003. Rather the opposite happened and the current processing time for I-485 cases has already reached over 25 months. Mine is such a case; it was received by CSC on Dec 7, 2001.

It would be very reassuring to the employment-based immigration community if you could request Director Neufeld to be more specific about the steps being taken, or being planned, in order to reduce the current growing backlog. For instance,
    1) How many officers are currently working on I-485 adjudications?
    2) How many officers will be allocated to I-485 after 3/9/2004?
    3) How many new applications are they receiving per month and how many old ones are they processing per month now? Currently these numbers are estimated at about 3500 and 350 respectively.

I am sure that you understand the many hardships that the unreasonable delays in I-485 processing creates for all of us, and I assure you that your inquiry into the specifics of CSC’s backlog reduction plan can contribute immensely towards alleviating our anxiety. I recognize that we might not be constituents to the full extent of the word, as we don’t currently have the right to vote, but we will be so tomorrow, and will remember your help.

    Respectfully yours,

I have seen many people sent emails to congressmen. Unfortunately, most congressmen care only about their constituents, who has rights to vote. We, the people without permanent residence, are not their intereste targets. To motivate those congressmen who don't bother to speak for immigrants, we should mobilize our relatives in US who can vote. Their voice is far more stronger than ours. Believe or not, without political influence we are nobody but labors in this country. We made tremendous contribution to this country's economy and deserve much more than a plastic card!

In short, get voters to speak for you! Only votes count.

    Letters

    Smallfish,

I just wanted to say that my husband who is a US Citizen, wrote on my behalf about employment based processing times. (FYI: I'm doing employment because I started it before marriage, and now the queues for marriage and condition removal are almost as long as employment.)

Anyway, the long and short of it is that he never received a response from either Senator or Congressperson. I think the real story is that it takes time and persistance and not nationality. I think Kashmir's efforts and results support this.

    Hi Kashmir,

Except Mike Honda and Anna Eshoo, are we contacting any other congressman/congresswoman? Did you plan to get at least 5 congressmen to speak for us?

    I'm in Anna Eshoo's district.

  28. update and question

I'd like to draft a reply with some stats about the TPS/Salvador issue -- how many applications were filed (and abjudicated) in this category over how many months in 2002, 2003? It would be helpful to point out these numbers to expose the thin ice CSC is on when it uses it as an excuse.

any pointers clarifying the TPS issue/stats welcome.

    Hi, wac-ed in CA,
Can you visit Anna Eshoo's Palo Alto district office next week to discuss with Patty Kim with some of us, not alone maybe 3 to 5 people ?
I'd appreciate if you agree it and making an appointment.
