    Green card tax

Hi, 1) Once you become a PR (permanent resident, aka GC holder) you're world wide income is taxable. 2) Depending on the types of income you are referring to different rules apply: If you were/are a full time employee of a company (not a limited company etc) things are MUCH simpler...

    2013 DV Australian winners

Steve, Some quick points, as i noticed your questions regarding moving to NYC. I am a 2010 winner who moved to NYC. Accommodation: 1) If single and unattached, i would initially look at short term/temporary housing; less risk involved if things don't turn out the way you expect. 2)...

finding US job after getting DV

I agree with Tazmania. I had no problem finding a job while overseas; this will depend on your skill set, experience, industry ect... It is alway better to look for a job while you are local, but it certainly isn't impossible to get a job while abroad. AJK

My wife is pregnant, Need advise.

Hi, This is strange, but it appears each region has its own version of the rules. I would suggest seeing if you can either postpone the interview. Or, do your interview (and medical) some place else if possible. ajk

I can't tell if I need a police check for where I live now??

Hi, I am an Aussie, but was living in the UK at the time. I thought i remember reading (when i was going through the process) that a cert was required for any place you have lived 6 months or more. They could have changed it, in any case if unsure email/call the embassy where you will...

After you get the GC, can you visit as a tourist?

I am not sure where the adamant expectation of immigrating on your first trip is coming from. If asked, being forthright can simply mean spelling out you are activating the visa within the requisite time period before returning to 'someplace' for a short time to tie up some loose ends (jobs...

My wife is pregnant, Need advise.

Hi, Just to add another perspective of experience for this scenario. My wife and I were granted our GC while she was pregnant. The X-ray was waived, and this was not a problem at all. We decided to activate our GC and fly back to our country of residence at the time; if i recall...

Can you apply again if you win and don't go?

My advice, progress now! (That is if you do want to live in the USA). Being selected is not something to take for granted; I have talked to people who have tried for years and years and still nada. Depending on your family reasons, if they are simply a temporary delay this shouldn't stop...

After you get the GC, can you visit as a tourist?

Hi, I tend to agree with the others who feel this is a bad idea. Is it technically possible, maybe. Though the fact that you have expressed immigrant intent, but are asking to enter as a tourist IMO could raise questions, concerns or complicate things. Immigration officials are never...

DV 2012 Australia Winners - Post Here

Elrotciv, glad to see another NYC local!! Myself, wife and our little one also moved over in June, and are loving our new life here. Had a job lined up beforehand which made it easier, finding an apartment is fun though :). Love the restaurants, central park and the city in general...

    Pregnant and going for interview

Ice, My wife and I went through this process last year. She was 3-4 months pregnant at the time of the interview; expecting doesn't have any impact on the process in our experience. You're medical requirements however will mostlikely be slightly different, ie: you may not have to do certain...

Should 14million plus dv2012 applicants not ramdoly sellected file petision?

Let's say 'justice' and 'fairness' was set aside and the original 'erroneous' results still stood; ABSOLUTELY!!! If the original results were re-instated? ABSOLUTELY!!! One thing US law appears to promise in this lottery is a random and fair selection. ajk

DV Lottery 2012 lawyer action (part 3) Office Inspector General LAUNCH INVESTIGATION US DoS

If the 'illegitimate winners' exhort their way into re-instatement, i can't wait for the 13 million or so that weren't selected via a FAIR and RANDOM process assured to them by US Law to start their court proceedings; at least they have fairness and justice on their side! ajk

Tax Returns for New Green Card Holder.

So, i have now found out that my wife is not required to file a return because for the taxable year as a resident her earnings where below the minimum amount required to file a return. However, because i was self employed (in the UK) i apparently have to file a return as my earnings were over...

2011 DV Lottery Winners from Australia Report Here!

You'll have to be careful, the activation from what i recall wasn't that long; but what you have to think about is how many people are in front of you in the line. If it is a busy period you could be waiting a while, and that could cause problems. Don't want to sound negative, but it could be...

2011 DV Lottery Winners from Australia Report Here!

Hi Tamara, Overall, our prime destination is the Upper West Side; this is where we would really like to live as it just seems leafier and more family friendly. I saw some places in Chelsea i liked, so that could warrant further investigation if the UWS doesn't work out. Brooklyn is really now a...

In my case, i was able to get the number after a few days, before i actually received the card. You'll have to go back into social security to get it, along with all the identification you had when first applying; ie: passport etc. ajk

Give the First 22,000 Diversity Lottery Winners Their Green Cards, Then Fix Your Computer Error

Umm...being selected in the lottery (even a valid selection) does not give you a green card...it simply gives you the opportunity to apply. So no green cards are owed to anyone. You don't appear to understand the process; or at least have drastically over simplified it. ajk

Private Bill to allow 22000 selectees to get their status without using 50,000 DV visas

Or the millions screwed over by an UNFAIR selection process? It a little surprising that the following peice of information is conistently getting ignored 'The results were not valid because they did not represent a fair, random selection of entrants, as required by U.S. law'. ajk
