Dear Experts,

I needed an expert advise.
My background:
Worked as Systems Analyst for many yrs in Oracle domain.
Have Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering (from India)
Have Masters in Mechanical Engineering (from USA)
If I apply as a Computer Systems Analyst under TN1, what are my
chances?. I am quite nervous as my Bachelor Degree is not in Computer Science.

Thanks in advance.

whats up friends. No one is throwing some light.
I know this topic might have been discussed many
times. But I am new to TN, and some expert's advise
would really help.

You should be nervous, but you can only find out at the border. You will need to show from your transcripts that you had MANY CSA-type courses.
Not much else to say.

Thanks Nelsona. Looks like any other Engineering degree beside Computer Science
are screwed big time for TN CSA positions. I looked at the latest OOH booklet. No mention of word Engineering

It says:
"A bachelor’s degree in a computer or information science field is common, although not always a requirement. Some firms hire analysts with business or liberal arts degrees who have skills in information technology or computer programming."

An engineer has more exposure to programming than a liberal art graduate. So this wording is encouraging. I do not know much about TN just I'm commenting on the note.

OOH is a guideline for what JOB qualifies for CSA. It is not for determining what degree is needed for NAFTA. But it is not impossible to get CSA as an Engineer, just not likely.

Hey Godhelp 123,

I am pretty much in same situation as you. How did you get it over?
Did you try at border for TN visa?

Thanks in advance.

FZT friend.

Honestly I have no clue. I have not yet visited the border.
But its really frustrating that our fate will be decided
at the border at mercy of immigration officer. US CBP
should really give Black and White instructions on their website
related to this--either 'yes' or a 'no'. I read on internet, that some officers have no problems with non-computer
science bachelors degree and some officers have problems.
really funny that there is no consistency.

I dont mean to discourage you but IMO it becomes more difficult to predict when the job offer is in a field which is completely different from one's educational background. I totally understand people can develop skills to be able to do a certain job but education does play a role in the TN profession designation you seek at the border. How did you learn about the system analyst skills required for this new role? if it was through some courses, make sure to stress that on your TN letter that you present at the border.

All the best.
