Hi:

Could some one answer my question?

After getting green card, my parents lived in India for 2 years. They took permission from US Immigration and they were give the permission.
Now when we apply for thier citizenship, are these 2 years that they lived in India will be counted or not? They have not lived in US for 5 years.

Appreciate your response!

They need to have 5 years of "continuous residence". Usually an absence of more than 6 months breaks continuous residence, and an absence of more than 1 year definitely breaks continuous residence. Under the 4 year + 1 day rule, they are eligible to apply 4 years and 1 day after they returned from that long trip.

I think the OP meant that they haven't lived in the US for a WHOLE 5 years (just 3-ish years due to the gap in residence).

Hello,
Do I need to file separate n-400 applications for me and my spouse. OR one application is enough for both.

Thank you.
