Marriage based green card..questions

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions. I had a green card a few years ago through a family member. I got in some trouble with the law and I had it taken away. I got married later and a few months ago got a ten year green card. Could this be a mistake? Is it supposed to be two year?

Thanks for the advice

Which category is your green card? If you were petitioned as a spouse of a citizen or spouse of a permanent resident, and you were married for less than 2 years at the time you became a permanent resident, then you should get a 2-year conditional green card and it would be a mistake. Otherwise (e.g. if you were a derivative beneficiary when your spouse applied for a green card, even if you were married less than 2 years), the 10-year non-conditional green card is correct.

Current green cards are valid for 10 years. So that is not a mistake and you have no need to worry about that. If you want expert advice than you should talk to an immigration lawyer.
