(a) you should have worked for atleast 1 yr out of the last 3 years for the same company OUTSIDE the US AND
(b) the company outside the US shd continue to exist for your L1 status to be valid in the US

Any time you stay out of the country for an year, you are eligible for a fresh H1 term of 6 yrs. I am pretty sure of this, though you need to confirm with a lawyer regarding your case.
