The check was made payable to "Department of Homeland Security" instead of "U.S. Department of Homeland Security." Would this result in a rejection?
My sister submitted her N-400 10 days ago but it was returned with a standard "Notice of Action" letter stating that she
1) did not include the filing fee or the amount was incorrect, and/or
2) did not include photos and/or copy of green card.
The thing is she did include all the...
I had made plans to travel to Canada by road but recently lost my green card and have applied for a replacement (I-90). I am scheduled to be fingerprinted in two weeks and USCIS will not stamp my passport with the "I-551" stamp until I have done the fingerprints. I do however have a valid...
A I-551 stamp in their passports is evidence of their permanent residence status in the US and will be accepted by Canadian authorities to allow entry into Canada.

I am on a short trip outside of the US and my wallet (which had my green card) got stolen. Thankfully I still have my passport and re-entry permit which is valid for another year. Can I travel just on the REP, or is it necessary to get a letter from the local US consulate? Please advise...
Careful. Giving up the green card does not get you off the hook with the IRS, as you may (under certain circumstances) still owe taxes for 10 years after abandoning your green card. See IRS form 8854 for details and whether this may apply to your situation...
was your application sent in while you were outside the country? if so, then don't bother with the biometric appointment as your application will eventually be rejected.
uscis has posted new instructions on the re-entry permit...

if it is any consolation, I too have been waiting since mid Aug '07 for my Re-entry permit.
However, a friend who had applied a month after me got it recently.
Seems like a very random approval process.
If you apply while your current RP is valid, then you have to surrender your RP with your application. However if you apply after the current RP expires, then you may be able to keep it

Incorrect.
From the FAQ posted on the IRS website:
Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?
A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.
Perhaps. Or maybe the OP was successful because she met the statutory residence requirement for naturalization which is 2.5 years within the U.S and no single trip of more than 6 months. There is nothing in the law that says naturalization should be denied simply on the basis of working abroad.
Does anybody have any clue as to why the I-131 processing date retrogressed? On Dec 15, 2007 they were processing applications received on July 14, 2007 but on Jan 15, 2008 the date went back to June 8, 2007.
How is this possible?
