  • recommended for approval?

We have our naturalization interview todayin Saint Paul MN. The IO said that I passed the test and she will be recommending for approval. what does this mean? is our application unofficially approved and we need to wait for the oath letter?

Does anybody know when is the next oath date for Saint paul MN?

    Thanks

Basically yes. "Recommended for approval" is the standard formulation in the case of the successful outcome of a naturalization interview. Technically, the final approval of an N-400 application only occurs at the oath itself.
N-400 [Chicago office, via Nebraska Service Cntr]
    Rec'd date: 12/06/2006
    FP notice date: 12/20/2006
    FP taken (Indianapolis): 01/11/2007
    2nd FP notice 09/09/2008
    2ndFP taken (Indianapolis) 09/26/2008
    Interview letter 01/24/2009
    Interview 03/26/2009 (completed)
    Oath letter rec'd 04/29/09
    Oath date 05/14/09 (completed)
U.S. pssprt applied and rec'd (Chicago pssprt agency) 05/22/2009

Actually it's approved (adjudicated) before the oath, although USCIS can still pull you from the oath if you're no longer eligible.

Can you explain how that relates to OP's question?

And I thought you hated explanations.

It ain't over till it's over.

An N-400 is only “recommended for approval” until such time as the applicant is admitted to citizenship.

8 CFR § 337.9 refers to the effective date ( based on taking the oath of allegiance) an applicant becomes a citizen .
Being "recommended for approval" has nothing to do with taking the oath of allegiance;it's part of the interview result process, not the oath. Even final approval of an application is before the oath.
